You and the Uterine Wall

According to The Asian Scientist, “Scientists in China are taking a new approach to improve the technique by studying the proteins that could help ready a uterus for an embryo to implant in its wall.” This report, which was originally published in the Journal of Proteome Research, could help researchers develop a new treatment that could boost the success rate of IVF.

You’re Not Alone with Fertility Struggles

Nearly 50 million couples worldwide need help to make their parenting dreams come true. While many turn to IVF, the success rate is only 1 in 3 because the embryo doesn’t attach to the wall of the uterus. Up until now, this was a mystery, but a team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences began pinpointing proteins as being the culprit.

Protein and IVF

After looking at over 2,000 proteins it was determined that more than 300 of them varied dramatically. This dramatic difference was due to whether the endometrium was ready for embryo implantation. The theory is that upping or lowering the levels of these proteins could greatly increase the success of the IVF treatment.
