Preparing for IVF – Naturally!

1

If you’re considering IVF, there’s several things you can do to get your body ready for an IVF cycle.

As mentioned in SimpleRX, here are some ways you can boost your chances of success:

  • Water: Get at least 8, 8oz. glasses of pure water every day.
Dehydration can cause your blood to become thick and decrease circulation in the body, as well as many other issues. Make sure to drink purified water.
  • Exercise: It doesn’t matter what kind you do. The point is that you increase the blood flow in your body to bring fresh blood to your cells. This will help oxygenate the blood. (Note: People who exercise often have higher libidos. This doesn’t hurt when trying for a baby!)
  • Hormones: It’s not a bad idea to have a hormone panel. If they are off, talk to a nutritionist about what foods and supplements you need to get them back in balance.
  • Massage: Like exercise, massage is wonderful for increasing blood flow to the reproductive system.  It brings fresh, oxygenated blood to the ovaries and removes old stagnant blood. You can have a massage therapist perform abdomen massage or find a therapist who specializes in fertility or Maya abdominal massage. (Note: Many are learning about self-fertility massage where they can do it in the comfort of their own home.)
  • Nutrition: Eating healthy can support your efforts to exercise and balance your hormones. Talk to an expert to find out what foods are best for your body!
  • Vitamins: Prenatal vitamins like Folic Acid are crucial to your fertility.
  • Peace: The more peaceful you are, the more likely you are to get pregnant. This is because if you are constantly under stress, you will produce prolactin, cortisol, and other
  • Alcohol: New studies are showing that alcohol can limit one’s ability to get pregnant.

Studies have shown that alcohol alters estrogen levels, which may interfere with egg implantation. (Note: A glass of Pinot with your dinner is unlikely to harm fertility.)

  • Caffeine: Research suggests that caffeine affects female hormone levels and may affect how long it takes to get pregnant. (Note: You don’t have to give it up altogether, but 1 – 2 cups of coffee/day should be the max.)

Talk to your health practitioner about nutrition, lifestyle and supplements to boost your overall cellular and circulatory health.  For a successful cycle you need good quality follicles and a rich, implantable endometrial lining. By taking the steps above, your chance of success raises dramatically.
