Infertility…Leading Us Down an Unexpected Path
How Did We End Up Here?
Many people working in the field of infertility end up here because they have first-hand experience and want to share their stories, information, and gratitude with others who are currently struggling with their own infertility. This kind of process, this coming together of sorts, helps us all to move forward with blind faith on a journey that begins with the odds against us, and returns us to what we believe is ultimately the exact place we were meant to be.
Infertility = Career
Global IVF came about because of the owners of Global IVF, Lauri Berger de Brito’s and Kathryn Kaycoff-Manos’, own experiences with infertility. Their own struggles to become mothers instilled in them a strong desire to help others overcome the odds, by sharing knowledge and providing fertility options that might not be as well known.
Prior to becoming the moms they are today, Lauri and Kathryn were both TV producers. After their infertility journeys, they realized that helping to ‘produce’ babies was far more rewarding than producing any TV show. After having their own children via surrogacy, they started their own agency, Agency for Surrogacy Solutions, Inc. It quickly blossomed into much more, they were invited to speak at fertility conferences across the United States and around the world. At these conferences , they met Intended Parents who were overwhelmed by the cost of what it might take to realize their dreams of parenthood. If becoming a parent required the use of an egg donor and/or a surrogate, the costs to do so in the United States could be astronomical. ($25-$35,000 for a fresh egg donor cycle, $100,000 for a gestational surrogate including all legal, IVF costs, etc). Most people just do not have that kind of money, especially in today’s economy. It broke Kathryn and Lauri’s hearts and while they knew that Intended Parents could travel abroad and do egg donor cycles or surrogacy journeys for half the amount or less, there wasn’t much dependable information out there about doing so. It was that realization 3 years ago that brought them to create GobalIVF.com – a free, unbiased informational website focused solely on fertility tourism.
Meant to be!
This story is such a great example of how their own fertility challenges inspired two women to create Global IVF…. which they refer to as their passion project. Educationing people about their worldwide fertility options, giving them the ability to take action and realize their dream of parenthood is Kathryn and Lauri’s way to ‘Join the Movement’. Reflecting on all of the encouragement, motivation and assistance they received during their own journeys has carried them to the place they are today; mothers, advocates, and business owners….the exact place they were meant to be.
We respect and honor National Infertility Awareness Week. It is the brainchild of RESOLVE, The National Infertility Association, established in 1974, as a non-profit organization with the only established, nationwide network mandated to promote reproductive health and to ensure equal access to all family building options for men and women experiencing infertility or other reproductive disorders. NIAW’s objective is to raise awareness about infertility – to motivate, encourage, and empower couples who are faced with infertility and helping them cope with their disease
