My Fertility Tourism Story
Sorry I have not updated recently – the last month was really hard. After my BFN from the fresh cycle I was really discouraged. I felt rather pathetic to keep trying, but I dragged myself through the motions of planning an FET. One last Hail Mary and that was it, this summer I would either be pregnant or start coping with a ”child-free” future. I was ready for this journey through infertility to end, one way or another. And wouldn’t you know it – happy ending!!! I am pregnant!! First beta = 1972, second beta more than doubled at 4144!!! I’ve never had a doubling beta before – I’m very excited!!
My fresh cycle in June/July resulted in the one embie that I transferred, and 3 frosties. I returned for my frosties on August 6, and transferred the two that survived the thaw. I’m beginning to suspect that both took with beta numbers like that…… I’ll find out for sure at my ultrasound on Aug. 31.
The trip itself was a bit nbso of a whirlwind, but not stressful, and I traveled by myself this time. I left from Portland on Saturday morning, arrived in Prague Sunday. No tourism, business only. Took the bus directly from the airport to Brno, ate and crashed when I got to the hotel. Transfer Monday morning, bed rest in the hotel. Tuesday, bus back to Prague, stayed the night at the hotel next to the airport. Red-eye flight and I arrived back in Portland before noon on Wednesday. Seems quick but it was all very smooth and it was kind of fun holing up in hotel rooms and relaxing by myself…. though I had to splurge on a few phone calls to my husband.
I already felt very comfortable recommending Reprogenesis, even after my BFN. But now it’s nice to be able to report they did in fact get the job done!!! A few things that may have helped me this time around included tweaking my thyroid medications and increasing Prednisone to counteract antibodies (under care of my doctor here in the US). Also I got acupuncture at the clinic, just before my transfer, for less than $60 for the session. It was lovely, very relaxing, and I didn’t need Valium for the transfer afterwards. I also did more frequent acupuncture at home before transfer and after I returned. Who knows, maybe that did it or maybe the stars were simply aligned in my favor. I just know I’m pregnant finally, and it looks like this one might stick around for the long haul!!! Thank you Reprogenesis, and ivftraveler of course!!!!
