Immunological Connection to Infertility and Miscarriage

global ivf

Throughout the last decade immunology has been and continues to be a hot topic issue in relation to infertility and miscarriage. There is an interest by patients to consider problems with the immune system as a cause for infertility or miscarriages, especially if no other cause has been found. This is very controversial amongst reproductive endocrinologist. There is no consensus among reproductive endocrinologists and reproductive immunologist, and in fact the debate has been contentious. ‘Wars of the Roses‘ article explains the controversy early on in the debate.

Dr Kutteh and Dr Odam from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Memphis, Tennessee published an updated article in February 2012 on autoimmune testing.  We recommend this clear summary of their paper by InVia Fertility Blog for further clarity on the topic.

Although more information continues to be added to the discussion, testing is still controversial and researchers are still debating this topic
