UK Intended Parents Travel to India for Surrogacy and Egg Donation

It is estimated that India was the home to 2,000 surrogacy births last year, and believed that as many of 1,000 of those babies will be calling the UK home.  This makes Britain “the single biggest course of clients for India’s 1.5 billion pounds surrogacy industry.” More and more intended parents from Britain are traveling for fertility treatments in India, to get around UK fertility laws. However, there is some concern regarding the long legal wait intended parents often face in India, as they navigate the legal system to try to gain British citizenship and passports for their children. There is an estimated 1,000 fertility clinics operating in India, many of which are not regulated in any way.
