REDBOOK magazine recently teamed up with RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association to launch a new campaign to bring awareness to infertility! This month REDBOOK interviewed women struggling with infertility for their article The Invisible Pain of Infertility. In conjunction with the article, REDBOOK started a No-Shame Video Campaign- “The Truth about Trying” In this month’s article, REDBOOK talked about how their discussions with fertility specialists and support-group leaders brought attention to the fact that, “couples often conceal their fertility problems.” Even on online communities, users will chose to go under ‘anonymous.’ REDBOOK references a survey by the pharmaceutical company Merck, stating that “of couples having difficulty conceiving, 61 percent of respondents hid their infertility from family and friends. Nearly half didn’t even tell their mothers.” Intended parents struggling with infertility often end up suffering in silence—feeling too ‘defective’ or shamed to share their journey. Through their most recent campaign, REDBOOK and RESOLVE are working to personalize infertility, and, in doing so, hope to remove the stigma and let go of the silence.
