In 1987, a South African woman, Pat Anthony, made history, as she acted as a surrogate for her daughter, Karen Ferreira-Jorge, and gave birth to triplets…her grandchildren. At the time of the triplets birth, Mrs. Ferreira-Jorge was not able to conceive another child, as she had a hysterectomy after complications during the birth of her first son. Mrs. Ferreira-Jorge and her husband wanted more children, and, through what Mr. Ferreira-Jorge calls “An Act of Love,” Mrs. Anthony gave the gift of surrogacy.
We are saddened to share that Mrs. Karen Ferreira-Jorge passed away this week from after being admitted to a Tzaneen hospital with a viral infection. Family and friends are flying into South Africa this week.
